GENERAL
STRIKE in EUROPE Nov 14
Italian
CGIL Union calls General Strike (ANSA)
– Rome:
The
powerful, Italian Union Confederation CGIL has declared a four-hour
General Strike in Italy for November 14, a note from CGIL read on
Monday (Oct. 29, 2012).
CGIL
is joining a pan-European mobilization launched by the European
Trade Union Confederation (ETUC)
to strike against economic austerity measures which they blame for
dragging Europe into recession, boosting unemployment, cutting
salaries and blocking growth.
Austerity
measures "are attacks on the European social model and
exacerbate inequality, and social injustice," said the ETUC in a
written statement. CGIL's Italian strike has the additional scope of
"changing the Stability Law", a set of financial
restructuring reforms presented by the Italian government
The
CGIL General Strike was called by the Union's Secretary General,
Susanna Camusso.

Greece, Portugal, Spain, EU South on General Strike, Nov 14th
Recent
protests and strikes in Greece, Portugal and Spain demonstrate that
the population increasingly opposes and rejects the imposed austerity
measures that throw into rash impoverishment millions of households
without perspective for the future. As well as a total overthrow of
Labour Rights and national Collective bargains. As the situation for
many EU citizens is deteriorating the Trade Unions finally woke up to
call for a Pan-European action with a clear message in the direction
of Brussels.
A
large, joint
action is planned for November 14th 2012,
organized by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) with
strikes, demonstrations and rallies across Europe.
So
far Trade Unions in Greece, Portugal and Spain have called for a
General Strike on that day, while there is information that also
trade unions in France,
Italy, Belgium, Malta and Cyprus
will join the Pan-European mobilization whilst apparently more with
solidarity actions than with General Strikes.
